3-Ingredient Banana and Peanut Butter Dog Cake Recipe

  • Author: Matteo
  • Total Time: 35-40 minutes
  • Yield: Serves approximately 6 small dog-sized pieces 1x

Description

This 3-Ingredient Dog Cake is a simple, safe, and nutritious homemade treat perfect for celebrating your dog’s special day. Made with just ripe bananas, natural peanut butter, and eggs, it contains no additives or fillers, making it ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs or picky appetites. Easy to prepare without special baking skills or equipment, this cake can be customized with optional add-ins and variations to suit your dog’s dietary needs and taste preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter (unsweetened, unsalted, xylitol-free)
  • 12 eggs (depending on desired texture)

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 tablespoon oat flour (for thicker batter)
  • A tiny sprinkle of cinnamon (small amount only, safe for dogs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a small cake pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Gather the bananas, peanut butter, and eggs.
  2. Mash Bananas: In a medium bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly with a fork until smooth. This ensures your cake will have moisture and sweetness.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the peanut butter and eggs to the mashed bananas. Stir by hand or use a hand mixer to blend everything together into a smooth, homogenous batter.
  4. Adjust Batter Consistency (Optional): If you want a firmer or thicker batter, sprinkle in a tablespoon of oat flour and mix again until smooth and pourable.
  5. Pour and Bake: Spoon the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Gently tap the pan on the counter to release any trapped air bubbles. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
  6. Cool Completely: Remove the cake from the oven and place it on a wire rack to cool completely. Do not serve the cake while warm to avoid the risk of raw egg.
  7. Serve: Slice the cooled cake into small, bite-sized pieces suitable for your dog. Optionally, serve with a smear of peanut butter or mashed banana on top to make it extra special.

Notes

  • Always use xylitol-free peanut butter as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
  • Introduce new ingredients gradually to check for any sensitivities or allergies in your dog.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • The cake is best served as an occasional treat, not a daily snack, to maintain a balanced diet.
  • For egg-free option, substitute 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal mixed with 3 tablespoons water, rested for a few minutes.
  • Monitor puppies carefully; puppies over 8–10 weeks can usually have this treat in moderation after consultation with a vet.
