Description

This delightful Apple Bread is the perfect fall treat, featuring tender, moist bread packed with cinnamon-spiced apples and a sweet cinnamon sugar swirl. Ideal for breakfast, snacks, or a cozy dessert, this homemade bread is easy to make and captures the essence of autumn in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

Bread Batter

  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chopped apples (Pink Lady, Gala, Honeycrisp – peeled and chopped, about 2 apples)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8 x 5 inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  2. Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. This will create the sweet cinnamon swirl for the bread.
  3. Combine Eggs and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar together until the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy.
  4. Add Butter and Vanilla: Stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and homogenous.
  5. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to the wet ingredients. Mix gently until just combined to avoid overworking the batter; it should be thick.
  6. Fold in Apples: Carefully fold the peeled and chopped apples into the batter, distributing them evenly.
  7. Layer Batter and Cinnamon Sugar: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle about three-quarters of the cinnamon sugar mixture over this layer.
  8. Top and Swirl: Spread the remaining batter over the cinnamon sugar layer. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar on top and gently swirl it into the batter using a knife or spoon for a beautiful marbled effect.
  9. Bake the Bread: Bake the loaf for 35 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. If the bread is browning too quickly, tent loosely with foil during the last 10 to 15 minutes of baking.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool completely in the pan before removing and slicing. This helps the bread set and makes for easier cutting. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use firm and sweet apple varieties like Pink Lady, Gala, or Honeycrisp for the best flavor and texture.
  • If the bread starts to brown too fast on top, covering it with aluminum foil will prevent burning.
  • Make sure the eggs are at room temperature to help the batter combine smoothly.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a handful of chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans.
  • This bread stores well wrapped at room temperature for 2-3 days or can be frozen for up to 3 months.
