  • Author: Matteo
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 to 10 servings 1x

Description

This Apple Pie Cinnamon Roll Bake combines the comforting flavors of classic cinnamon rolls with sweet apple pie filling, creating a deliciously gooey and indulgent breakfast or dessert casserole. Easy to prepare and perfect for sharing, it features layers of cinnamon-sugar coated cinnamon roll pieces baked with juicy apple chunks and finished with a drizzle of creamy icing.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Coating

  • 2 Cans Pillsbury Grands Cinnamon Rolls (17.5 oz each)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Butter (melted)

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Can Apple Pie Filling (approximately 21 oz)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar Mix: In a gallon-size ziplock bag, combine 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Seal the bag and set aside for later coating.
  2. Cut and Coat Dough Pieces: Remove the cinnamon roll dough from the cans and cut each roll into six even pieces. Place all pieces into a large mixing bowl and drizzle the melted 1/4 cup butter over them, tossing gently to coat each piece thoroughly.
  3. Coat Dough with Cinnamon Sugar: Add half of the butter-coated cinnamon roll pieces into the ziplock bag with cinnamon sugar. Seal the bag and shake gently to evenly coat. Repeat the process with the remaining dough pieces to ensure all are covered.
  4. Arrange in Baking Dish: Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Spread the coated cinnamon roll pieces evenly in the dish. Sprinkle any leftover cinnamon sugar mixture on top. If preparing in advance, cover with foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Also refrigerate the included icing.
  5. Add Cream and Apple Pie Filling: When ready to bake, remove the casserole and icing from the refrigerator. Drizzle 1 cup of heavy cream evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces. Cut the apple pie filling’s larger apple chunks into bite-sized pieces, then spoon tablespoons of the filling evenly over the rolls.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole uncovered for 27 to 32 minutes, until the cinnamon rolls are golden and cooked through.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Drizzle the included icing over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving for a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • For best results, prepare the dish the night before to let flavors meld and save time in the morning.
  • If you prefer, substitute the apple pie filling with fresh chopped apples mixed with cinnamon and sugar.
  • The heavy cream adds richness; it can be substituted with half-and-half for a lighter option.
  • Ensure even coating of cinnamon sugar for consistent flavor distribution.
  • Use a 9×13 inch dish to allow enough space for the cinnamon rolls to expand while baking.
