Ingredients
Scale
Apple Pie Filling
- 21 oz. can apple pie filling
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 cans (17.5 oz each) canned cinnamon rolls
- 2 icing packets from cinnamon roll cans
Additional Ingredients
- ¼ cup (50 g) light brown sugar
- 1 – 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon or apple pie spice
- ¼ cup (59 ml) melted butter, plus 1 tablespoon (15 ml) for greasing dish
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Lightly grease a 9 x 13 inch (23 x 33 cm) casserole dish with about 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of melted butter.
- Separate Apple Filling: Gather two bowls and a mesh strainer. Pour the entire can of apple pie filling into the strainer. Press the sauce through the mesh into one bowl, reserving the apple chunks in the strainer. It’s fine if some sauce coats the apples. Transfer the apples into the second bowl, chopping larger pieces into chunks and set aside.
- Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Open both cans of cinnamon rolls. Remove the icing packets and set aside for later. Cut each cinnamon roll into 4 to 6 pieces.
- Mix Ingredients: Place the cinnamon roll pieces into a large bowl. Add the light brown sugar, ground cinnamon or apple pie spice, and the strained apple pie filling sauce. Gently mix to coat each cinnamon roll piece evenly with the filling, sugar, and spice.
- Assemble: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top evenly with the reserved apple chunks, pressing them gently into the cinnamon roll mixture. Drizzle the edges of the dish with the melted butter.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center pieces of the cinnamon rolls are no longer doughy. Test by scooping a small portion from the center: if the dough is fluffy, the cobbler is done; if doughy, bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes, checking after 40 minutes.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from oven and cool on a cooling rack for 15 minutes. Drizzle the reserved icing over the top before serving. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of cinnamon or apple pie spice based on your taste preference for more or less spice.
- For a crispier top, you can broil the cobbler for 1-2 minutes at the end of baking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- If canned cinnamon rolls are unavailable, homemade cinnamon roll dough can be used as a substitute, though baking times may vary.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated before serving.
