Ingredients
Scale
Burrata and Coating
- 4 oz Burrata (Substitute with fresh mozzarella if desired)
- 1 cup All-purpose flour (Use gluten-free flour if needed)
- 2 large Eggs (Can use a vegan egg substitute)
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs (Regular breadcrumbs can be used but won’t be as crunchy)
- 2 cups Vegetable oil (Can use canola or peanut oil)
- Salt, to taste (Use sea salt for better flavor)
- Pepper, to taste (Use freshly ground for best flavor)
Spicy Dipping Sauce
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise (Use vegan mayo for a dairy-free version)
- 2 tablespoons Sriracha (Adjust for desired heat level)
- 1 tablespoon Honey (Agave syrup can be used as a vegan alternative)
- 1 tablespoon Lime juice (Lemon juice can be substituted)
- 1 clove Garlic, minced (Fresh garlic preferred)
- 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro (Optional)
Instructions
- Pat Dry: Gently pat your burrata balls with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture, ensuring the coating sticks properly.
- Set Up Breading Station: Prepare three bowls: one with seasoned flour (season with salt and pepper), one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs. This assembly line makes the coating process efficient.
- Coat Burrata: Take each burrata ball and first coat it evenly in the flour. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally roll it thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs to create a crispy crust.
- Heat Oil: In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain precise temperature for optimal frying.
- Fry Burrata: Carefully place the coated burrata balls into the hot oil. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Drain: Remove the fried burrata from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Make Spicy Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sriracha, honey, lime juice, and minced garlic. Mix until smooth. Add chopped fresh cilantro if desired.
- Serve: Arrange the crispy fried burrata on a platter and either drizzle with the spicy dipping sauce or serve it on the side for dipping.
Notes
- You can substitute burrata with fresh mozzarella if burrata is unavailable, though the creaminess will be slightly different.
- For a vegan or dairy-free version, use vegan mayonnaise and egg substitutes, and substitute honey with agave syrup.
- Adjust the amount of sriracha according to your preferred spice level.
- Using panko breadcrumbs is recommended for the best crispiness, but regular breadcrumbs work in a pinch.
- Ensure the oil temperature is steady at 350°F to prevent the cheese from breaking open or the coating from burning.
