Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Custard
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Fillings
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, cheddar, Gruyère, or blend)
- 1 cup add-ins (sautéed mushrooms, spinach, bacon, ham, or seasonal vegetables)
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Set the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the quiche.
- Prepare crust: Place the 9-inch pie crust into a pie plate and blind bake it for 8–10 minutes. This step prevents the crust from becoming soggy once the custard is added.
- Make custard: In a bowl, whisk together the 4 large eggs, whole milk or half-and-half, salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg until well combined and smooth.
- Assemble: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese and your choice of fillings such as sautéed mushrooms, spinach, bacon, ham, or seasonal vegetables into the blind-baked crust.
- Pour custard: Gently pour the egg mixture over the cheese and fillings inside the crust, filling the pie plate without overfilling.
- Bake: Place the assembled quiche into the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes until the center is set but still slightly jiggly and the top is lightly golden.
- Cool: Remove the quiche from the oven and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving to let the custard firm up fully.
Notes
- Store-bought crust saves time; homemade crust adds a flaky texture.
- For a gluten-free option, skip the crust entirely.
- Use frozen vegetables, shredded cheese blends, or leftover meats for budget-friendly variations.
- Make ahead by refrigerating the assembled quiche for up to 4 days or freezing slices for up to 3 months.
- For an overnight option, assemble the quiche the night before and bake fresh in the morning.
- Pairs well with fruit salad, green salad, roasted potatoes, or light soups.
