  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Quiche Make Ahead is a versatile, savory pie filled with creamy custard, cheese, and customizable add-ins like vegetables or meats. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, this easy homemade quiche can be prepared ahead of time, making it ideal for busy mornings or stress-free entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

Custard

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Fillings

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, cheddar, Gruyère, or blend)
  • 1 cup add-ins (sautéed mushrooms, spinach, bacon, ham, or seasonal vegetables)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the quiche.
  2. Prepare crust: Place the 9-inch pie crust into a pie plate and blind bake it for 8–10 minutes. This step prevents the crust from becoming soggy once the custard is added.
  3. Make custard: In a bowl, whisk together the 4 large eggs, whole milk or half-and-half, salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg until well combined and smooth.
  4. Assemble: Evenly sprinkle the shredded cheese and your choice of fillings such as sautéed mushrooms, spinach, bacon, ham, or seasonal vegetables into the blind-baked crust.
  5. Pour custard: Gently pour the egg mixture over the cheese and fillings inside the crust, filling the pie plate without overfilling.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled quiche into the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes until the center is set but still slightly jiggly and the top is lightly golden.
  7. Cool: Remove the quiche from the oven and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving to let the custard firm up fully.

Notes

  • Store-bought crust saves time; homemade crust adds a flaky texture.
  • For a gluten-free option, skip the crust entirely.
  • Use frozen vegetables, shredded cheese blends, or leftover meats for budget-friendly variations.
  • Make ahead by refrigerating the assembled quiche for up to 4 days or freezing slices for up to 3 months.
  • For an overnight option, assemble the quiche the night before and bake fresh in the morning.
  • Pairs well with fruit salad, green salad, roasted potatoes, or light soups.
