Description

The Easy Swiss Mushroom Melt is a deliciously cheesy sandwich featuring sautéed golden mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese nestled between toasted bread slices. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal, this recipe combines savory garlic mushrooms with creamy cheese in a buttery grilled sandwich.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Mushroom Filling

  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sandwich

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices bread (sourdough, whole grain, or choice)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Slice the mushrooms and mince the garlic. Gather all your ingredients to have them ready for cooking.
  2. Heat the Oil: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the mushrooms.
  3. Sauté the Mushrooms: Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until they turn golden brown and become tender.
  4. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Season the mushroom mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Toast the Bread: In a separate pan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place two slices of bread in the pan and toast until they are golden brown and crisp.
  6. Add Cheese: Once the bread is toasted, layer two slices of Swiss cheese on top of each slice while still warm to help it start melting.
  7. Top with Mushrooms: Spoon the sautéed mushroom mixture evenly over the cheese on each slice of bread.
  8. Finish with Cheese: Place another slice of Swiss cheese on top of the mushrooms, then top with the remaining slices of bread to form the sandwich.
  9. Grill the Sandwich: Carefully flip the sandwiches in the pan, add the remaining tablespoon of butter, and grill until the second side is golden brown and the cheese has fully melted, about 3-4 minutes.
  10. Serve Hot: Remove the sandwiches from the pan, cut them in half, and garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use any bread of your choice such as sourdough, whole grain, or white bread for variation.
  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of thyme or rosemary to the mushrooms while sautéing.
  • Make sure to cook mushrooms until golden brown to bring out their umami flavor.
  • Use fresh Swiss cheese for the best melting quality.
  • Serve with a side salad or soup for a complete meal.
