Scale
Dry Ingredients for Biscuits
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients for Biscuits
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Topping Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (or fresh finely minced garlic for stronger flavor)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Set your oven to 425℉ (220℃) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, granulated sugar, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and seasonings.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Cheese: Using a wooden spoon, stir in the whole milk and melted butter until just combined. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese carefully to avoid overmixing which can make the biscuits dense.
- Shape the Biscuits: Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, scoop the dough into 8 equal portions and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving at least 2 inches between each to allow room for spreading during baking.
- Bake Biscuits: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until the tops are slightly golden and the biscuits have risen nicely.
- Prepare Topping: While the biscuits bake, mix together the melted butter, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, dried parsley, and sugar to create a flavorful glaze.
- Apply Topping and Serve: Once the biscuits come out of the oven, generously brush the garlic-parsley butter mixture over each biscuit while they are still warm. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving to avoid burning your mouth.
Notes
- For a stronger garlic flavor, substitute garlic powder in the topping with fresh finely minced garlic.
- Be careful not to overmix the dough to keep biscuits light and tender.
- If you prefer spicier biscuits, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
- These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheated briefly in the oven.
- Whole milk can be substituted with buttermilk for a tangier flavor and extra tenderness.
