Ingredients
Scale
Fruits and Meats
- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady)
- 8 slices prosciutto (thinly sliced)
Seasonings and Toppings
- 2 tablespoons honey (raw or hot honey preferred)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter (for brushing apples)
- 2 ounces goat cheese or brie (for creamy variation)
- Fresh rosemary or thyme (finely chopped for garnish)
- Crushed walnuts or pecans (for added crunch)
- Drizzle of balsamic glaze (for tangy finish)
Instructions
- Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Make sure to clean and oil the grates well to prevent the apples from sticking during grilling.
- Prepare Apples: Slice the apples into wedges or rounds about ¼ to ½ inch thick. Remove the core while keeping the peel intact to maintain structure and texture during grilling.
- Brush Apples: Lightly brush both sides of the apple slices with olive oil or melted butter to enhance browning and prevent sticking on the grill.
- Grill Apples: Place the apple slices on the grill and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until grill marks appear and the fruit becomes tender but remains firm, avoiding mushiness.
- Add Prosciutto: Wrap or top the grilled apples with slices of prosciutto. For a crispier texture, you may grill the prosciutto separately for 1 to 2 minutes before serving.
- Finish and Garnish: Drizzle the honey over the grilled apples and prosciutto right before serving. Optionally, add a sprinkle of fresh rosemary or thyme, crumbled goat cheese or brie, crushed walnuts or pecans, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze for extra flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use firm apple varieties like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady for the best texture after grilling.
- If you prefer, substitute olive oil with melted butter for a richer flavor.
- You can make this dish vegetarian by omitting prosciutto and adding more cheese or nuts.
- For a spicy kick, use hot honey or drizzle some chili flakes along with the honey.
- Balsamic glaze adds a tangy contrast but can be omitted if you prefer a sweeter profile.
