  • Author: Matteo
  • Total Time: 27 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

These Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls are a quick and easy twist on classic cinnamon rolls, using original King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls for a soft, fluffy base. The rolls are sliced and filled with a cinnamon-sugar butter mixture, baked until golden, and topped with a creamy cinnamon cream cheese icing. Perfect for a delicious breakfast or sweet snack in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Rolls and Filling

  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian original sweet rolls
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup white or light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Icing

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly spray a baking pan large enough to fit one package of Hawaiian rolls with cooking spray, then set it aside.
  2. Prepare Rolls: Cut each Hawaiian roll about 1 inch deep in one direction, then rotate 90 degrees and cut in the opposite direction to create a grid pattern. Transfer the cut rolls into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Make Cinnamon Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, sugar, and ground cinnamon until fully combined.
  4. Fill Rolls: Using a small spoon, carefully drizzle the cinnamon butter mixture into each of the cut openings on the rolls, ensuring even distribution until the mixture is completely used.
  5. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15 to 19 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Once done, remove from the oven and transfer the rolls to a wire rack to cool slightly.
  6. Prepare Icing: In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, room temperature butter, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer for about one minute until smooth and creamy. Alternatively, whisk thoroughly by hand.
  7. Frost Rolls: Spread the cream cheese icing evenly over the warm rolls, allowing it to melt slightly into the crevices.
  8. Serve: Enjoy the cinnamon rolls warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use white or light brown sugar for the cinnamon butter filling; brown sugar will give a richer flavor.
  • For easier slicing, slightly chill the rolls before cutting.
  • The rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently in the microwave before serving if stored.
  • Substitute dairy-free cream cheese and butter to make a dairy-free version.
