Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 package prosciutto
- 1 package mozzarella balls (about 12 oz)
Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Prepare Prosciutto: Open the package of prosciutto and gently separate the slices, laying them flat on a clean surface so they are ready for wrapping.
- Prepare Mozzarella: Remove the mozzarella balls from their packaging and drain any excess liquid. If the balls are large, cut them in half to facilitate easier wrapping.
- Wrap Mozzarella: Place one mozzarella ball (or half ball) in the center of each slice of prosciutto. Carefully wrap the prosciutto around the mozzarella, fully enclosing the cheese to keep it intact during baking.
- Season Olive Oil: Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Once heated, add dried oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper, stirring the mixture for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Remove from heat.
- Brush Seasoned Oil: Using a brush or spoon, lightly coat each prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella bite with the seasoned olive oil mixture. This adds flavor and helps crisp the prosciutto in the oven.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the wrapped bites onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart to ensure even cooking.
- Bake: Put the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the prosciutto is crispy and slightly golden brown, and the cheese is warmed through.
- Cool and Garnish: Remove the bites from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle with chopped fresh basil for added flavor and presentation.
- Serve: Serve the prosciutto-wrapped mozzarella bites warm and enjoy this irresistible appetizer.
Notes
- You can cut larger mozzarella balls in half to make wrapping easier and create bite-sized portions.
- Fresh basil is optional but adds a nice fresh flavor and beautiful color contrast.
- Be careful not to overcook, as mozzarella can melt and lose shape if baked too long.
- Use parchment paper or foil to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
- These bites are best served warm the same day they are baked.
