  • Author: Matteo
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 24 pieces 1x

Description

Ritz Cracker Toffee is a delectable, sweet-and-salty treat featuring buttery Ritz crackers topped with a rich homemade toffee layer and smooth melted chocolate. This easy-to-make dessert requires minimal ingredients and prep time, making it perfect for holidays, parties, gifting, or any occasion when you want a delicious and crowd-pleasing indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Crackers

  • 2 sleeves of Ritz crackers (about 32 crackers)

Toffee Sauce

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • A pinch of sea salt (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the toffee-coated crackers evenly.
  2. Arrange the Ritz Crackers: Lay the Ritz crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to create a stable base for the toffee.
  3. Make the Toffee Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and continue stirring constantly until the mixture bubbles. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and turns a golden color. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract for flavor.
  4. Pour Over Crackers: Quickly pour the hot toffee sauce evenly over the arranged Ritz crackers, spreading gently if necessary to coat all crackers.
  5. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, allowing the toffee to bubble and become golden, resulting in a perfectly cooked toffee layer.
  6. Add the Chocolate Layer: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl using 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the warm toffee layer.
  7. Cool and Set: Allow the toffee and chocolate to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 30 minutes to fully set. Once set, break or cut into pieces for serving.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the toffee: A golden color indicates perfect readiness to avoid bitterness.
  • Use quality chocolate: It enhances the richness and flavor of the top layer for the best taste experience.
  • Chill before cutting: Refrigeration helps the chocolate set firmly, making clean, easy cuts possible.
