Ingredients
Scale
Sauce Ingredients
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp water
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
Chicken Coating
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into pieces
- 1 large egg
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch pepper
Cooking Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
To Serve
- 4 cups cooked jasmine rice
- 2 whole green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, water, toasted sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, grated fresh ginger, minced garlic, and cornstarch until smooth and well combined.
- Coat the chicken: In a separate bowl, beat the egg and stir in cornstarch, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken thigh pieces and toss until they are fully coated with the egg mixture.
- Cook the chicken: Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the coated chicken pieces and fry them until they turn golden brown and are thoroughly cooked, about 6 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- Make the sauce coat the chicken: Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet with the chicken. Stir continuously and cook until the sauce thickens and evenly coats all the chicken pieces.
- Add the garnish: Sprinkle the sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the chicken and give it a final stir to distribute.
- Serve: Serve the hot sesame chicken immediately over steamed jasmine rice for a complete meal.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, you can double coat the chicken with the egg and cornstarch mixture.
- Adjust the amount of brown sugar to suit your preferred sweetness level.
- If you prefer less oil, use a non-stick skillet and reduce the oil amount slightly.
