Description
A comforting slow cooker recipe featuring tender chicken breasts simmered in a creamy chicken soup and gravy sauce, perfect served over mashed potatoes and garnished with fresh parsley.
Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 3 chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
- 10.5 oz can cream of chicken soup
- 2 – 8.7 oz packets chicken gravy mix
- 1.5 cups water
To Serve
- Mashed potatoes
- Parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a medium or large bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, chicken gravy mix packets, and water until smooth and combined. This mixture will form the flavorful base of the dish.
- Add chicken to slow cooker: Place the chicken breasts into the crockpot and season them generously with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook the chicken: Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken in the slow cooker. Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours, or alternatively on high for 4 hours, until the chicken is completely tender.
- Shred the chicken: Once cooked, use two forks to roughly shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker or transfer to a plate to shred.
- Combine shredded chicken and finish cooking: Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot, stir it into the gravy mixture, and cook uncovered for an additional 15 to 20 minutes to let the flavors meld.
- Serve: Spoon the chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes and garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a delicious meal.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts if you prefer darker meat.
- Cooking times may vary depending on your slow cooker model.
- For thicker gravy, use less water or add a slurry of cornstarch and water towards the end of cooking.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with creamy mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
