Ingredients

Scale

For the Hamburger Steaks

  • 1.3 pounds ground beef
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried onion
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

For the Tuscan Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1½ cups heavy cream
  • 3 cups fresh spinach
  • ½ cup sun-dried tomatoes, drained and chopped
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, dried onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined to avoid dense patties. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a ball.
  2. Sear the Hamburger Steaks: Heat olive oil and unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef balls and press each down to about ¾ inch thickness. Cook for 5 minutes on each side until well browned. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add diced yellow onion and minced garlic. Sauté for 2 minutes until fragrant and the onion is translucent.
  4. Add Seasonings and Tomato Paste: Stir in salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and tomato paste. Cook for about 30 seconds to develop the flavors.
  5. Incorporate Cream and Spinach: Pour in the heavy cream and add the fresh spinach. Stir continuously until the spinach wilts completely, creating a creamy base for the sauce.
  6. Add Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Parmesan: Mix in the chopped sun-dried tomatoes and grated Parmesan cheese. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer to allow the flavors to meld.
  7. Simmer the Hamburger Steaks: Return the seared hamburger steaks to the skillet with the sauce. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes or until the steaks are fully cooked through and tender.
  8. Serve: Plate the Tuscan Hamburger Steaks with the creamy sauce spooned over the top. Serve warm alongside mashed potatoes, pasta, rice, or crusty bread for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the ground beef to keep patties tender and juicy.
  • If the Tuscan sauce thickens too much, add a splash of broth or milk to adjust consistency.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently over low heat to maintain the creamy texture of the sauce.
