Tossed with a tangy Italian dressing made of mayonnaise, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and Italian seasoning, it’s chopped into bite-sized pieces and served inside hoagie buns for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Toppings

  • 3 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup banana peppers
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup pitted green olives

Cheese & Deli Meats

  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 slices ham
  • 6 slices pepperoni
  • 6 slices salami

Dressing

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

Optional

  • red pepper flakes (for a spicy kick, optional)

Instructions

  1. Layer the ingredients: Start by placing the shredded lettuce, provolone cheese slices, ham, pepperoni, and salami in layers on a large cutting board. Add the sliced tomato, thinly sliced red onion, and banana peppers on top.
  2. Add additional toppings: Sprinkle the sun-dried tomatoes and pitted green olives evenly over the layered ingredients.
  3. Chop the mixture: Using a sharp kitchen knife, chop all the layered ingredients together until they form bite-sized pieces, mixing them gently as you go to combine evenly.
  4. Add the dressing ingredients: On top of the chopped mixture, add mayonnaise, extra-virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper to taste.
  5. Mix and adjust seasoning: Chop and mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Taste the mixture and adjust salt and pepper as needed. For extra heat, optionally add red pepper flakes.
  6. Spoon into buns and serve: Spoon the chopped Italian sandwich mixture into hoagie buns or your preferred sandwich bread. Serve immediately and enjoy!
